Location
With a territorial size of 8,547,403 km3, Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world in area of discontinuous lands.
The line of the Equator crosses northern Brazil and cuts through the following states: Amazonas, Roraima, Pará and Amapá.Most of the Brazilian territory is located in the southern hemisphere with a small part (around 7%) in the northern hemisphere.
The southern part of our country is cut by the Tropic of Capricorn, which crosses the following states: São Paulo, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul.
Therefore we can also verify that most of our land is located in the inter-tropical or torrid zone with a small part (around 8%) in the south in the temperate zone.

All of the Brazilian territory is located to the west of the Greenwich meridian and is therefore in the western hemisphere. We can also observe that our country occupies the Central-Eastern portion of South America, extending from the first foothills of the Andes mountain range to the Atlantic Ocean.…
