Riga traffic has lots of topics to discuss. The most terrible reason for all these topics are that Riga’s as well as Latvian traffic is one of the most dangerous in European Union. In order to improve road traffic safety on the level of developed European countries and drastically decrease the number of injuries and deaths, the Road Traffic Safety Board has been founded, directed by the minister of transport and communications. The board coordinates traffic safety policies and administers the implementation process and results of the National Road Traffic Safety Program.
In Riga, most attention is paid to control of traffic members, realization of safety measures, education and training for most vulnerable traffic members, such as pedestrians and bicyclists, roadworthiness of vehicles, as well as road traffic safety improvements in the dark.
