Whenever a major disaster such as an earthquake occurs, firefighters are on the case to protect and serve. Many times during an earthquake a building collapses trapping many people under it. Firefighters will do whatever it takes to get to you and get to you alive. The most memorable case was the twin towers in N.Y during Sept, 11. Thousands of people were trapped under the debris of the building. Working around the clock the firefighters did what ever it takes to get to the few survivors, using such tactics as Jaws of Life, and search and rescue dogs.
Firefighters serve and protect our communities in countless ways, whether it is through teaching, containing wildfires, saving lives, search and rescue, or even just helping around the community. The title of 'firefighter' says only on aspect of its true job description. When you know hear a firefighter being referred to as being a hero, I am sure you will have much more respect for that. That is way whenever you see a firefighter simply tell him 'Thank You.'
