Since the nineteenth century, when Costa Rica gained independence from Spain, on September fifteenth, 1821, there have been few interruptions in this democratic development. With a population of over 3.8 million Spanish-speaking residents, Costa Rica, a largely agricultural country, has expanded its economy to include strong technology and tourism sectors.
