CONCLUSION
Even though the United Nations had failed in many cases to prevent an armed conflict, it had succeeded in brokering peace and to provide humanitarian aid. The present situation of the world is very different from what it was between the years of the two world wars. We are now no longer in any threat from totalitarian states, and communism had collapse. The few communist or totalitarian states are relatively weak to pose a serious threat even though North Korea is threatening a nuclear war. No totalitarian states are now as strong as Nazi Germany. The Soviet Union had collapsed, communist states no longer have the backing they used to have.
The United Nations will face many new challenges in the coming millennium. The UN can meet these challenges through greater cooperation between nations, increasing the awareness of the world's population and through the continued work of concerned people around the globe.
