This article made me realize how many adolescents are harassed everyday. Many young children are reluctant to attend school and hindered in their ability to do well because of peer harassers. Some subscribe to the theory "kids will be kids" but it is apparently clear to me that intervention is not only necessary but critical to solving this problem. The investigator suggests using school policy and programs to prevent harassment. These theories concerning use of school policy and programs are, at best, inadequate. It did not work when I was an adolescent and it will continue that way. Getting parents more involved is also a necessary action. They should be alerted to how their actions and words could make a victim or a bully out of a child. Although there may be no "cure" for harassment there are ways of minimizing the amount of occurrences. Informing students of the dangers of harassment and what to do if are harassed are essential in the prevention of harassment. Studies have yet to be done investigating nonviolent harassment and long term effect variable. …
