Mankind is inherently evil. Man would commit horrible crimes if there were no laws. If there were no laws in society, humans would have miserable lives. In William Golding's novel Lord Of The Flies, Golding proves that people are naturally evil. Golding uses the conch as a symbol of power, fire as a symbol of destruction, and Piggy as a symbol of civilization.
The conch is a symbol of power from the beginning of the novel when Ralph blows it. For example, Ralph wants to have rules and democracy on the island, and he wants to give power to everyone. "I'll give the conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he is speaking, and he won't be interrupted." (33). His idea of giving power is good because in this way he is establishing equality on the island. …
