Through this metaphoric representation of the role of women in the Elizabethan society, Emilia is condemning the men within her society for behaving in this manner. This condemnation of her society portrays the insight that she posesses; being able to see that this is exactly the way Othello and Iago are treating their women, using them solely to fulfil their sexual appetites, with little if any emotional attachment. Through the atypical values that Emilia is presenting here, a responder influenced by the feminist reading of the text may see Emilia as a strong, courageous individual for breaking free from her societal restraints, and perhaps even a pioneer for the feminist beliefs.
Responders influenced by various social and post-modern values may value Shakespeare's Seventeenth Century Revenge Tragedy 'Othello' in a variety of ways, two of which being the Feminist reading, and the Psychoanalytical interpretation.…
