‘The Shout’ is one of that stories that strike forceful impression and makes think about things that are expressed in it. Of course, everyone will interpret it in his own way, yet there are some things that could not be misinterpret. This time author tells about immortal things – love, confidence, human’s soul and fears of death.
The story tells about a man called Crossley, who spent his days in the asylum because of his two delusions: most serious delusion is that he is a murderer, and the other delusion is that his soul is split in pieces. He meets a person, whom he tells his rather unbelievable and frightening telling. This person is mentioned as ‘I’, and the story about Crossley is told from his point of view. Reader knows nothing about ‘I’; probably it could be the author, who lives throughout the story, but makes the sense that he stays apart.
Crossley’s story gives possibility to look into relationships between two married people and changes that happen in their lives when they meet Charles – the great traveler with a magical power. …
