Main characters – four sisters, their mother and a young boy named Laurie Laurence.

Beth (Elizabeth) – 13 years old, rosy, bright eyed girl, with a shy manner, a timid voice, peaceful expression, she seemed to live in a happy world of her own. Beth really loved music and she could sing like a bird. She played the piano well.
Meg (Megan) – the eldest one, 16 years old, she was very pretty, with soft, brown hairs and white hands. She always gave advice to her sisters.
Amy – thought the youngest, was a most important person – in her own opinion at least. She had blue eyes, yellow hair. She always carried herself like a young lady mindful of her manners. She loved art and loved to draw.
