On December 16, they boarded the ships and dumped the tea in Boston Harbor.
As a result of the Boston Tea Party, the British passed a series of laws called the Coercive Acts, which were also known as the Intolerable Acts. "Under these laws, more soldiers were sent to Massachusetts, Boston's port was closed, General Thomas Gage was made Governor, and the Massachusetts charter was rewritten." (Olseky pg. 56) The new soldiers were sent to enforce the laws.
