This painting is a very real and true depiction of Frida. Although her thick eyebrows and mustache may not be attractive to some, it is who she really is and what she really looks like. She makes no attempt to conceal her flaws or anything about her. Frida often drew herself in the company of animals, like in this painting she is accompanied by a monkey. As her home was always inhabited by animals, it was apparent that Frida enjoyed them very much. Many believe it was because she could not bear children that these animals sort of filled that void.
There is no doubt that Frida lived a very difficult life. Toward the end, and in the midst of her uncontrollable pain, Frida attempted suicide. This is why it is believed that she was at peace with dying in the end. However, she the short life that she had the way she wished and had a grand time doing so. She was loved by many everywhere she went and her charismatic and entertaining personality was just as captivating as her artwork.
