TV had to reflect the cultural shift that was going on. During this time, a show known as "The Mary Taylor Moore show was developed. Many of the feminists of time could relate to Mary's character. Mary is a woman in her 30's, who is unmarried and has no children. She works at a Television station and lives with a female roommate. She represents a type of women that is emerging, an indepent woman.
<Tab/>To the women of her time, Mary is an inspiration because she reinforced the idea that women can be anything she wants. This was a revolutionary idea at the time. LikeMary, women too can enter the workforce. Women no longer need to worry if they do not find the right mate or if they have no children. Traditional family roles were not something all women want. From the Mary Taylor Moore Show, women learned that it was okay to want to have an independent single lifestyle.
