This author’s client is a 9 year old girl, Ann (name changed) – special education student at Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy. In 2003, Ann was identified as a kid with a disability for the first time. Nowadays she is in a self contained classroom and is diagnosed with Autism. Ann is showing the evident symptoms of selective mutism, although is not diagnosed having this disorder. The client’s academic performance is on a high level. Counselling is provided to address social skills.
Ann’s main microsystems are family and school/class. Client’s family can be described as middle class, nuclear, two parent family, with one child and older parents. No dysfunctional characteristics are attributed to this family. The father is employed, and mother is a housewife. The parents are taking an utmost care of their child and actively engage in treatment and educational process.
Ann has been engaged in the current school for two years. She is a second grade student in a self contained classroom with six other children (2 girls and 4 boys) diagnosed with Autism. …
