The film Ongka’s big moka is about a man of the Kaewlka tribe in Papua New Guinea who has decided to arrange a moka to pay back a neighboring tribe that hosted a moka before. In this film by ‘moka’ is meant ‘interest’. Although that tribe gave the Kawelka 400 pigs, now Ongka wants to repay them with 600.
They live in sedentary small villages and hamlets. The Kawelka are horticulturalists, raising pigs, yams and other vegetables. These two are in some way strongly related, since the only way to accumulate food surplus is to invest extra yams into pigs.…
