Partial Discharge in High Voltage Cables
This is a Formalized discharge pattern for cut that is implemented in this experiment. The cables are just the same as used in every day situations in nowadays , that’s why they live up to all the regulations and standards and that makes the partial discharge evolution process quite slow , because they are manufactured and designed to resist partial discharge as much as possible and to slow down the aging process of the cable.
After the software reads and shows the measurements , it makes a file where it stores all the measured data in a text file. This software is also very convenient for monitoring as you can set up period of how often the measurements will be taken. Here is an example of the text file which is created when the experiment is started and measurements are taken.
These are just a few data examples of just one measurement in one partial discharge in just one second. And there are thousands of them in each second and in each measurement.

In nowadays world the need for a great and stable power supply is increasing every day and people become more and more reliable to the electricity. Increasing the usage of electricity and in most cases lack of demand to change the cable because of the costs , therefor cables start aging and the quality tends to drop and that’s where the Partial Discharge might occur. It is important to develop a condition management process for voltage cables to be able to optimize the construction and total life cycle costs of such of a cable network. Cable structure is quite hidden that’s why it can be evaluated only by proper measurements. It is widely acknowledged that a clear conection exists between the deterioration of the cable and partial discharges. For years, partial discharge measurements have been used as part of condition management in case of single expensive electrical equipment like generator or others, and it is proofed to be a working solution.
