Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was an Italian polymath, painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer. But he is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived.

Despite the recent awareness and admiration of Leonardo as a scientist and inventor, for the better part of four hundred years his enormous fame rested on his achievements as a painter. He knew how to express human emotions and gestures in his art. Leonardo's works are unique, because of his rich and detailed knowledge of anatomy, light, botany and geology. All these qualities come together in his most famous painted works.…
