The word identity is complicated because their's is no one definition that define it. Sociologist and Psychologists defines it in relation to their area of interest. To me as a psychology student the word identity refers to the capacity for self _ reflection and the awareness of self. Johnson (1986) defines it as an umbrella term used throughout the social sciences for an individual's comprehension of him or herself as a discrete, separate entity. In sociology the notion of identity is individuals 'labeling of themselves as member of particular groups, such as nation, social class, subculture, gender and so forth.…
