The teenage years are a period of major change because young people gradually move from childhood dependence toward adult independence while still needing significant emotional, practical, and social support. Teenagers begin making more decisions for themselves, developing stronger personal opinions, forming deeper friendships, thinking about future education and careers, and questioning rules that they may previously have accepted without much discussion. At the same time, they may experience academic pressure, social comparison, uncertainty about appearance and identity, conflict with friends, fear of failure, and the desire to be accepted by others.
