Nowadays, when the world is developing faster than ever before, it is important to stay in the same rhythm because those who will “survive” will not be the fittest but the most flexible. This statement does not only concern economical competitiveness but what is even more important, the social sphere. Education (formal, non-formal and informal) is a key for a successful functioning in the society, for a successful performance of our roles, for development of our dreams and for defining and carrying out the democratic values.
One possibility how to strive for a better living is investing in human capital; and adult and continuing education would be only a tiny part of it. Nevertheless, adult education is very important as nowadays’ society in Europe mainly consists of working age people. For this reason it is crucial to offer adults different kinds of educational possibilities, including courses, educational television and literature, support groups, clubs of common interests etc.
As for adult education programmes, it is important that they correspond to the needs and interests of learners and they should also be, of course, well-planned. I would like to present 5 ideas which to my mind are important and should be taken into account when developing a programme. …
