In the winter the disease seemed to disappear, but only because fleas were dormat. Each spring, the Plague attacked again killing new victims. Even when the worst was over, smaller outbreaks continued, not just for a few years, but for centuries. The survivors lived in constant fear that the Plague would return. The disease did not totally disappear until the 1600's.
There are still chances that this Plague could pop up again, because the rats and the fleas still linger today.
