After reading the interesting novel The Apprenticeship of Lucas Whittaker by Cynthia DeFelice, I have discovered three good traits Lucas has that make the story worthwhile to read. Lucas, the main character, is brave, hardworking, and helpful.
First, Lucas is very brave. When an epidemic kills his whole family but him, he leaves his farm with only a couple belongings and goes to a new town where he finds work as an apprentice to Doc Beeker, the friendly Doctor in the area.
