Self-confidence is an important part of student development because learning requires more than intelligence, memory, or subject knowledge. Students also need to believe that their actions can influence results. A learner who approaches every task with the expectation of failure may avoid asking questions, refuse difficult work, remain silent during discussions, or give up before making a serious attempt. Another student with similar ability may approach the same task with the belief that improvement is possible and therefore practise longer, seek feedback, and recover more quickly after mistakes.…
