Why did I choose to write my paper about idioms? I think that idioms just as the other expressive means enrich our language and make it more interesting. Of course, it is possible to communicate without using expressive means, the sense doesn’t change, but in this case the style of language would be poor and boring. The usage of expressive means characterizes the speaker and makes his style of language individual and even unique. It also assures his intelligentsia and language skills. Idiom research could be a nice way how to improve my English knowledge- memorize not only the basic meaning of words but also connotative one.
I would like to compare Latvian and English equivalent idioms and find out the differences between them. …
