3. What is your opinion of Angela`s behaviour? Is she a naive idealist or
an interfering busybody? Why does she ignore her father in favour of Mr Loveday? How do you think the author intends us to see Angela?
Angela’s behaviour gives the reader the impression of her being a young maximalist, whose ideas normally wouldn’t cause any harm, but not in Loveday's case. Her passion for the idea of freeing Mr Loveday could be useful in other fields, for example, her professional career or building a happy family. Decision to put all her time and energy to help this elderly man could be caused by his charisma and helpful personality. Mr Loveday was respected among the patients and doctors, and Angela seemed to like him. She either is in love with this man (what would explain why she chose to help him and not her father) or she is an extremely empathetic and kind-hearted person. I respect Angela’s willing to help Mr Loveday, but in her situation I would put my energy into something else. As we see, in this case things would be better left as they are and excessive interference in the lives of others can lead to unwanted consequences.
