Plant can protect against ozone, it can avoid it and defend himself. Avoid ozone by stomatal closure by leading to decrease mesophyll photosynthesis. Defend himself by finding in cell apoplast or at the plasmalemma surface ascorbate, glutathione, and antioxidants.
As ozone level is increasing each day, is necessary to mitigate it somehow. It is possible by removing of pollutants: changing mitigation policy, changing air quality standards and removing precursors. By choosing ozone-resistant varieties for cultivation of crops: by changing adaptation policy and also screening axisting variability, not just only genetic engineering.
