Anselm Kiefer's "Glaube, hoffnung, liebe" measures 280.0 x 380.0 x 75.0cm and is a mixed media piece which consists of synthetic polymer paint, shellac on photodocument paper on canvas (linen) with lead. It was started in 1984 and completed in 1986. The background is impasto; the emulsion paint has been built up to create a texture and the brush strokes are clearly visible. The focal point of the piece is the propeller, which is made of lead and has been welded together. The reason behind it being made of lead is that lead is a material that is too heavy for anything to take off in. …
