John Steinbeck's novel, "Of Mice and Men" is a tragic tale set in America during the great depression. It is a novel about defeated hopes and dreams, loneliness as well as companionship.
The title of the novel "Of Mice and Men", is a reference to a section of Robert Burns poem: "The best laid schemes o' mice and men, gang aft agley. And leave us not but grief an' pain. For promised joy". Which when translated reads: "The best laid schemes of mice and men often go wrong. And leave us nothing but grief and pain. For promised joy".
