Travel is often associated with holidays, entertainment, photographs, hotels, beaches, famous landmarks, and temporary escape from everyday routines, but it can also become one of the most practical ways to learn about the world. A person can study countries through textbooks, films, maps, websites, and classroom discussions, yet physically entering another place creates a different type of understanding because ideas that were previously abstract become connected with real streets, languages, buildings, food, transport systems, landscapes, customs, and people. A student may learn in geography that cities develop around rivers, ports, resources, transport routes, or political centres, but travelling through such a city makes these relationships visible. History becomes more concrete when a person stands in a building, memorial, battlefield, old town, museum, or archaeological site connected with events previously encountered only in books.…
