Lyme disease (transmitted by the bite of a tick) is an infection caused by spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi. It was named after its discoverer, Willy Burgdorfer. It freely travels throughout the circulatory system and from there, all throughout the body. The disease is easily diagnosed and treatable in an overwhelming majority of cases. Some other diseases caused by spirochetes include relapsing fever and syphilis.
