Hollywood movies enable us to see the events that underline the discourse of the world in different eras although they may be biased for most of the time. Dr. Strangelove and Wag the Dog are two examples that belong to different contexts but both of them helps us to grasp the unchanging nature of the politics.
When we think of the nature of the politics, we'll figure out that it was always manipulative, interest-centered, personal and dirty. Machiavelli may be a good example. He had recommended the politicians to embrace utilitarian ethics when needed.Once you get into ther world of politics you see that it's impossible to be idealistic as Kant. Although the context was different, the nature of politics was no different in the era of the Cold War. Politicians was distorting reality, using propaganda and media. As I mentioned before, the overall actions of the United States was inclined to the use of propaganda to increase support for the Cold War, which dominated American foreign policy through the era of Cold War. The time and places may change, however, the nature of politics remains always the same. It's a league where only professionals can play and the score of the game depends on the talent of the one to manipulation.
