Extract

The students of the college separate naturally into subgroups. To achieve the best results, students will be divided into strata based on the course subject. It will help to better understand each course’s satisfaction with the library service. According to William Cochran, it is very important that numbers taken in each of these samples is proportional to the size of the group (Cochran,W.G.,2007). It means that the amount of students taken part in questionnaire will be chosen based on the student amount in the each course. It will ensure that each stratum has the same sampling fraction. The questionnaires will be distributed directly to the students via class teachers or class representatives. The questionnaires will be handed out at the end of a teaching session. Before handing I will show the questionnaire to a couple of people like my friends, family to see if something needs to be amended.

Data storage
This year’s data should be stored in a safe, secure location away from public access, for example, creating a separate file on computer using Microsoft Office Excel. Data storage is important because properly storing data is a way how to protect a research investment. It is recommended that questionnaires’ data are protected from physical damage as well as from loss or theft. This is best done by limiting access to the data. The computer needs to have updated anti-virus protection, up-to-date versions of all software and a firewall. The use of study codes is an effective method how to protect the confidentiality of respondents. The computer’s files should be backed up and the backup data stored in a secure place physically removed from the original data. Under the Data Protection Act ‘’researcher needs to ensure that the reason for the research is clearly spelt out to respondents’’ (http://www.legislation.gov.uk). The information collected from questionnaires should be used for confidential research purposes. ‘’The Freedom of Information Act gives a general right of public access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities’’ (http://www.legislation.gov.uk). These two Acts need to be applied in the processes of data collection, analysis and storage.
