There is no person in Europe who would not know Lidl stores. My story with Lidl
started not like simple customer, but my first meeting with this company was with logistics
company. Lidl is part of the Schwarz Group , the world's fifth largest retailer with sales of
104.3 billion euros on 2018year. In 2021 Lidl stores also came to Latvian market, so why is
it so popular and has so big success?
The story started in 1932 when Josef Schwarz became a partner in Südfrüchte
Großhandlung Lidl & Co., what was a fruit wholesaler, and he turned the company into a
food wholesaler. The first Lidl stores were opened in 1973, copying the Aldi concept.
Schwarz strictly removed products that were not on sale from the shelves and cut costs by
keeping the size of the outlets as small as possible. In 1977, under the leadership of Josef
Schwarz son Dieter Schwarz , Schwarz-Gruppe began to focus on discount markets, large
supermarkets and wholesale cash and carry markets. …
