An example of a Business-to-Consumer company would be Halfpricebooks.com. The business originally started in 1972 as a single bookstore in Dallas, Texas. The company experienced tremendous growth and in 2003 launched its B2C website. Just like their stores, the website sells its products directly to the consumer. The consumer is able to browse the selection, contact a "store representative for online support. The consumer is able to review any items as well as its pricing before making attempts to purchase. The entire purchasing process from item selection to payment and shipment is done conveniently and securely online.
In conclusion, Internet commerce is increasing at a rapid pace. Both B2C and B2B site have an end goal of gaining revenue by encouraging consumers to buy their products or services. The major difference is the focus on separate target consumers. Whereas B2C sites are focused more so on selling to end consumers, B2B websites are much more focused on providing services and products between two businesses.
