Contemporary
Contemporary philosophical approaches recognize that this approach valorizes groupness and a social group’s specificity. Identity politics assumes that a cohesive, self-identical subject is ontologically prior to any form of social injustice, however post-structuralism recognizes that there is no real identity that is seperable from its conditions of possibility, therefore any identity formation must engage with the paradox of acting from the very subject-positions it must also oppose.
Identity is established on a series of differences that have become socially recognized (no separate identity would exist if there were no such differences).
