Description
Angkor Wat is a giant temple complex at Angkor, Cambodia.

It was built for the king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century.
History
Angkor Wat is located in an area of Cambodia where there is an important group of ancient structures.
Dedicated to Vishnu god, it was built as the king's state temple and capital city.
The original name of temple is unknown, but the modern name, Angkor Wat, means “City Temple”.
From the beginning Angkor Wat was Hindu temple, but it was converted to Buddhist temple.
Architecture
Angkor Wat is the prime example of the classical style of Khmer architecture.
The central towers symbolizes the five peaks of the mountain Meru.
Temple is surrounded by a moat of width 190 m.
The territory enclosed by a wall which length is 3,6 km and high 4,5 m.
The main building material was sandstone.
Style
Architecturally elements includes:the ogival, redented towers shaped like lotus buds; the cruciform terraces; steep stairways.
