The DEC Case

The fourth topic, I believe, mostly deals with standards on data processing and communication. Activity in this field has to guarantee that new information systems conforms industry standards and could be without serious problems integrated with outer systems for various needs.
So let's consider the strategy as a result of further development of the topics. First of all, we have to know the budget of the project. But under the conditions of the case, only estimates are possible. In our case, the budget at least has to allow to change to new channels with high transmit rate. Under any budget condition, the first necessary step is to increase information channels transmit rate between warehouses and the central database (it will give the company the time gap to implement the new system, but new channels will be used in any case). It is well known estimates of the cost of consulting services (to implement new information system) is approximately 30%-50% greater then the cost of software licenses. If we are going to use ORACLE RDBMS [2], then, according to the late autumn 2003 price list, the cost of the Enterprise Edition Server is approximately $44,400.
