As regards verbs of motion, in comparison with other characters, Sarah`s actions are described using more simple verbs. Her movement is pretty neutral:” She went to her mirror, but did not look at herself; she slowly covered her face with her hands, and then very slowly raised her eyes from the fingers.” But, for example, Mrs Poulteney is described using more colorful, active and quicker verbs:” Then with a crablike clutching and motion she found her way to her chair and collapsed into it in a not altogether simulated swoon”.

Typical features of oral speech are graphical stylistic devices, e.g. “I command you to leave this room at once” that emphasizes more an oral speech or, for example, “You…shall…answer…for…that.” also signals for emphasis.
