Japanese ideas of time can be seen in artwork, in traditional Japanese subjects, they painted things such as cranes, bamboo leaves, rocks, plants, all things that essentially could be considered timeless.
<Tab/>The ideology of eastern cultures has had a significant effect on the shape of western modern cultures. Exposure to eastern schools of thought have led to radical changes in science and increased our understanding of physics. The introduction of eastern philosophies and artwork has also led to many changes in the world of art that have become characteristic of modern culture; eastern influence can be seen today in many works of art, the brilliant colour fields of painter Mark Rothko no doubt consciously or subconsciously inspired by eastern ideas of time and space. "Eventually Monet, Manet, Gauguin and Van Gogh would all acknowledge their debt to this Asian influence."(Shlain 159).
