The test subjects were then instructed to click on the box and stare at the X. After a short random interval, a picture of a hand was flashed on the left or right side of the screen so as to be presented to one eye only. The pictures were of left and right hands in various positions. Each picture and its position on the screen were selected randomly when the subject clicked on the box at the bottom of the screen. Each test subject was instructed to move the mouse to the left or right side of the screen, off the box at the bottom, when they were able to decide if the picture was of a left or right hand. The program measured and recorded the time it took to identify the hand. Incorrect answers were discarded and another picture was randomly selected.
