I would like to start by saying that every region of the United Kingdom has something special about it, either it’s an extraordinary culture or surprising historical facts, language diversity and so on. One of the regions that caught my eye was Northern Ireland. So, I thought, why not to look deeper into this particular region and find out some interesting information to broaden my knowledge, and also make me think about a possible trip to Northern Ireland with my family in the future.
Firstly, Northern Ireland has unique geographical characteristics, for example, low central plains that are surrounded by coastal mountains. The highest peak is Carrauntoohil (Corrán Tuathail), which is 1,041 meters above sea level. Some of the other features include rugged western coastline with many islands, peninsulas, bays and headlands. Not to mention the fact that the island is bisected by the River Shannon, which at 360.5 km with a 102.1 km estuary is the longest river in Ireland and flows south from County Cavan in Ulster to meet the Atlantic Ocean just south of Limerick.
