The Hollywood Blockbuster Movie

'Speed' doesn't look like it has particularly huge special effects in it but there is a lot of spectacle and action the who way through the film.
In 'Terminator 2' there were large parts of the film that had no special effects in it so as not to have the whole film just about special effects. The special effects and spectacle did play a large part of the film and indeed the narrative was carried through the special effects in some parts. One of the characters who is shown turning into liquid form and without the special effects the story would not have worked so in this case the special effects not only helped the narrative along but the whole film would have been impossible to make without them.
