What does it mean to be Latvian

Latvia is small country in Europe with less than 2 million populations. Although we are pretty small country – we as a nation are pretty strong, some historians even still believe that there is such a country as Latvia. And this is understandable, because if you look at Latvians existence history, our country has been more occupied than independent country.

We as Latvians are not great showing our patriotism, but it definitely does not mean we are not patriotic. We only show it at three occasions: when our Latvian hokey team is playing (after last year’s 5th place in basketball, I think now also when basketball teams is playing), when Song and Dance festival is held in Riga for one week, and when someone talks in foreign language (not tourists, but people who lives here). …
