Right, so, Harper Lee or Nelle Harper Lee was an American novelist, best known for this exact novel, which was actually her first, it has won the 1961 Pulitzer award and has now become a classic of modern American literature, and the writer herself has received many awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2007. She was born in Alabama, and the novel is actually based on her own observations and experience from when she was about ten years old.
