Painting in 19th Century in Latvia

Latvians’ paintings in 19th century were built on traditional Russian art because most of Latvian painters their education had in St. Petersburg.

At the end of 19th century latvians in St. Petersburg founded coterie “Rūķis”. They wanted to create an independent Latvian art.
