Stratosfēras ozona slānis gandrīz pilnībā absorbē visu saules UVC (100-280 nm) starojumu.

Zemes virsmu sasniedz tikai lielākādaļa (apmēram 90%) UVA (315 – 400 nm) un apmēram 10%UVB(280-315 nm) starojuma.

Tomēr līdz ar stratosfēras ozona slāņa samazināšanos ir iespējama UVB starojuma proporcijas palielināšanās Saules gaismā.

Visas trīs UV starojuma joslas tiek klasificētas kā iespējami kancerogēnas cilvēkam.
