PURPOSE:
“Staro Riga Light Festival” is an annual tradition festival of outdoor installations, used to transform Riga’s panorama using modern light and video technology.

"Staro Riga Light Festival" is an annual traditional festival. The event usually lasts 3-5 days, and it's time coincides with the Independence Day of Latvia.
STUDENTS ROLE:
Volunteer on different type of installations for 3 days (15,16 and 17th November)
PARTICIPANTS:
140 volunteers were involved in informing visitors and helping them find their way around for three days. The festival was organized by Riga City Council, Riga City Council Education, Culture and Sports Department and Riga Municipal Association of Cultural Institutions together with Staro Riga cooperation program partners - State Chancellery, Ministry of Defense, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Riga, State Education Development Agency, Riga Freeport Authority, sworn law office "Eversheds Sutherland Bitāns", SIA "Omniva", Latvian Academy of Sports Pedagogy, JSC "Latvenergo", SJSC "Riga International Airport" and "UNTITLED originals".
PROCEDURE:
Riga Culture's Secondary school offered to their students to volunter in "Staro Rīga Light Festival", students that accepted the offer were put in a groups that went to different objects by their given schedule.The objects for the main program of the festival were selected in accordance with the artists' competition, but the second program was created by the cooperation partners of "Staro Rīga" and includes 12 objects.
OUTCOME/RESULT:
The festival featured 35 light art objects divided into two programs. The theme was four dimensions of the art of light - time, space, man and light, interpreted by the festival's artists, each guided by their own creative intentions.With the help of modern light and video technology, the festival presented outdoor installations such as – building lights, multimedia projections in parks, on high-rise buildings and monuments. The exhibition used any kind of city object – buildings, squares, bridges, monuments, diverse performances, musical and theatrical shows, and interactivity with visitors that helped vitalize the objects.
