K. V. Nguyen - Latvia, worthy of Lāčplēsis

Kao Viet Nguyen – artist, Latvian at heart, born in the south of Ho Chi Minh City, where the temperature is +30 degrees, and the traffic is crazy. He liked Lego, comics and games. At the age of 15, he came to Latvia, saw the meadows, the forests, the Daugava River. It was difficult in the beginning because he only spoke English. Later, he started to learn Latvian and enrolled in the Jānis Rozentāls Art High School. To learn Latvian better, he asked for the smallest book in Latvian in a bookshop and was given the epic “Lāčplēsis”. Everything changed. Any Latvian knows who Lāčplēsis is, but a foreigner doesn't. Kao was so inspired by this epic that he chose to draw Lāčplēsis as a comics for his coursework. During this time, he decides to study in the USA to become a comic artist, but this proves to be very expensive.
