Main events:
Chapter one is narrated by Tate. It takes place in the present. Tate wants to settle into her brother’s flat so that she can concentrate on looking for a job as a registered nurse and begin her new life in San Francisco. In the elevator she meets guy named Dillon, who She meets friendly elevator attendant Cap. She also runs into Dillon on the elevator, a sleazy married man who wants to sleep with her. Later she have to deal with drunk man sleeping against the apartment door, who turns out is her brother’s friend, airline pilot Miles, who is a secretive guy with a past he is willing to tell no one. Tate helps Miles into the apartment as he’s drunkenly weeping and saying the name “Rachel.” …
