At the beginning tour operators were offering only one and two week short-haul holidays to cultural destinations, the ski resorts and Mediterranean. However, as the total holiday market grew in the 1980s, long-haul destinations began to grow in popularity too. The market was also divided into all sorts of niche sectors, as operators tried to identify every possible holidaymaker`s need and then design a product to match it.
Short-haul destinations are those less than five hours flying time, and short-haul overseas holidays take many forms, as: flights with hotels, single centre, coach trips with hotels, ctr. But the long-haul package holiday is a more recent development, because there had to be developed planes which could fly long distances without needing to stop for fuel. …
